Nigerian man arrested in New Orleans for killing of his father, injuring his sisters

L-R: Suspect with his late father

A 27-year-old Nigerian man, Chukwuebuka Eweni, has been arrested in New Orleans after allegedly stabbing his father to death and injuring his two sisters during a violent domestic incident on Pebble Street.

Police said officers were called to the residence at about 9:59 p.m. on November 11, 2025, following a report of an aggravated battery involving a knife. On arrival, they found an unresponsive man with a fatal stab wound and two adult women suffering from multiple injuries. The victims were identified by relatives as Samuel Eweni, a computer sciences professor at Southern University at New Orleans, and his daughters.

Family members described the attack as unexpected, telling local outlet WWL Louisiana that the suspect had a history of mental illness but had never shown violent tendencies. One of the sisters has since been discharged from the hospital, while the other remains admitted but is expected to recover.

Authorities later located the suspect in Jefferson Parish, where he was taken into custody and placed under medical evaluation. The New Orleans Police Department said detectives had identified him as the attacker and obtained a warrant charging him with one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder, warning that he was considered armed and dangerous at the time of the search.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office is expected to release the official cause of death following an autopsy and notification of next of kin.
